This post is all about the best desk essentials for home office.
It has become increasingly common for people to be working out of their homes.
According to Forbes, as of 2023, 12.7% of full-time employees work from home and 28.2% work a hybrid model where they work at least some of the time from home.
With that statistic in mind, you can see the importance of having a good work from home office.
A good work from home office has all the important items you need to get work done efficiently and productively while remaining comfortable but still professional.
While working out of bed or from the couch can be nice on “sick days” or from time to time, research has shown that you aren’t as productive in these types of environments in contrast to being in an actual office setting at a desk.

Once you have a specific room or area of your home or apartment you want to dedicate to remote work, you can begin setting up your area with the following essentials. Be sure to cater to your own style when picking out each or looking on a Pinterest board for inspo.
Keep in mind there are a ton of other things you can add to your at home office, but, as a minimalist myself, I find I’m happiest with my office when I only have the bare minimum or essentials below.
Read on for all the best desk essentials for home office.
1. Chair
A comfy chair is an ultimate essential when it comes to your work from home needs. You will be spending a good majority of your day planted in this chair, so choose wisely!
As someone who loves to sit cross-legged, this viral TikTok chair was exactly what I didn’t know I needed in my life (until I had it, that is).
It comes in a variety of colors to match any vibe.
2. Mouse
If you’re anything like me, you hate the look of a bunch of cords on your desktop. So, finding a good, reliable wireless mouse is a must when it comes to desk essentials for your home office.
You can’t go wrong with the apple mouse; but if you’re looking for something a little less pricy, this one is a great Amazon dupe!
3. Keyboard
Similar to a mouse, a wireless keyboard can also transform the look of your work from home desk setup.
While I love the Apple Magic Keyboard as well as a first choice, this one is a close second and it is super cute with the bubble buttons!
4. Pens
I don’t do a great deal of writing for my job other than to-do lists/checklists. So when I’m doing my checklists, I want to have a pen that glides effortlessly and looks aesthetically cute if I leave it out on my desk.
These neutral gel pens are beautiful and under $10 for a pack of 6.
They are quick drying which means they are smudge-proof and are a fan favorite for good reason which make them an essential work from home supply.
5. To-Do List Notebook
To go with your cute pens, snag this cute to-do list notebook that will help you be more productive by checking off tasks as you go.
I especially like this one because it doesn’t have pre-made categories, which allows me to divide it up exactly how I want. It also has a cute date-selection portion at the top along with spiral binding which allows me to rip off the paper at the end of the day to expose a fresh page for the next day.
6. Desk Protector
A desk protector is no doubt an essential for your home home office. It will prevent you from accidentally scratching, spilling food or drink, or writing on your desk.
I love the simplicity of a clear on like this.
7. Monitor Stands
Natural wood or acrylic stands are a great way to add some height while also giving you some extra storage space on your desk.
This monitor stand is a neutral wood tone that looks good in any space with an extra layer of storage with the shelf.
8. 3 in 1 Clock, Alarm, & Timer
Arguably, having one of these isn’t essential; but it is definitely a great way to keep yourself on track when it comes to productivity when working from home.
Working in spurts of 20 minutes is a great way to enhance productivity, and this clock makes it super easy to set a timer and focus for the indicated period of time.
It’s easy to get sidetracked and lose track of time when working from home. Given this timer doubles as a clock and alarm, you can use it on your breaks to clock in and out on time.
9. Calculator
Depending on the type of work you do, having a physical calculator handy could be a great desk essential to add.
I love the look of these minimal, basic calculators.
10. Statement Piece
Find a bold statement piece like below to sit on your desk for the ultimate sophisticated desk vibe.
This could be anything from a vase of flowers, to a candle, to a statue like the one below (I might be biased to how cute this as, as a poodle-obsessed dog mom), depending on the vibe of your work from home office space.
11. Rug
A rug can absolutely transform a room.
This holds true especially in a work from home office space.
I love to add a cozy vibe to an at home office space with a textured design rug like this.
12. All in 1: Space Heater, Purifier and Fan
Are you someone who is constantly freezing? Or are you someone who is always sweating their @$$ off while you work?
Depending which you are, add comfort and safety to your desk area by adding this Dyson all in one space heater, cooler and air purifier. You get maximum temperature control, can program it to turn on/off in intervals, and it oscillates.
The best part is this it links to the MyDyson app for your phone which gives you insight into your air quality.
13. Shelf
If your desk is up against a wall, you might be wondering what to do with the blank space above your monitor.
I love the look of a shelf or two, which doubles as an area to hold your books and give a library feel to your home office.
We love a book-smart girly (even if they are just for *decor*)
14. Plug In Port
Having a charging port close-by to plug in multiple electronics at once is a home office desk essential.
It’s a good idea to preemptively charge up your mouse/keyboard at the end of the week. Not to mention it’s nice to have multiple spots to plug in electronics such as monitor, etc.
Stay connected at all times with this This Power Strip. It’s perfect for any at home office and checks all the boxes.
15. Lamp
While I love natural daylight while I work, if it starts to get late in the afternoon or evening, having a cute desk lamp is a must-have.
How beautiful is this brushed-brass gold desk lamp? It looks super high end and classy!
16. Headset
While most companies give out headsets, they are usually not great quality.
I use my AirPods or regular wired headphones that come with your iPhone, but this headset is next level and would be the perfect home office desk essential, especially if you do a lot of phone calls or are in a call center type of position.
It features advanced noise-cancelling technology to provide crisp, clear calls even if you are in a loud environment.
17. Organizational Drawer
Any home office desk needs an area to store papers.
Whether it’s a desk with a built-in drawer for storage, or an actual file drawer or box sitting off to the side or underneath like the one below, an at home office needs a designated spot to organize paper documents.
18. Laptop or iPad Holder
If you find yourself having downtime during your work days, a tablet holder is a great desk essential for you to catch up on your favorite Netflix show in between busy times.
I love the minimal look and functionality of this acrylic one.
