This post is all about the moisturizers you need to use if you have an eczema rash on your face.
Back when I was battling the worst of my eczema, I spent hours searching online for remedies and products that actually worked.
It wasn’t until I had patch testing done that I discovered my ingredient triggers and have since started avoiding unnecessary flare ups. Except for the occasional time I venture out and try something new, only for may skin to angrily scold me the next day.
That’s why I wanted to save you from making the same mistakes I have and provide you with tried and true moisturizers for eczema rashes on your face.
These are the products that I will buy over and over again because my skin loves them.
Disclaimer: this list is pretty short and it’s what works for me. If you haven’t already went and had patch testing done for your eczema rash on your face or body, I highly recommend doing that first. That way you can pinpoint ingredients that make your skin angry and avoid them altogether.
Why is this list so short?
My list of face moisturizers for eczema is a short one for good reason. I have noticed with my skin, especially when it is flared up, less is more!
There were even times I dabbled in moisture withdrawal but ultimately it didn’t work out for me. Even though it did help with cutting down on the redness, my skin still stayed super dry and flaky.
Without further ado..
Moisturizers you need for an eczema rash on your face:
1. Best All Around Face Moisturizer : CeraVe Moisturizing Cream
The first product I swear by is CeraVe Moisturizing Cream.
My journey to finding this product was not a short one. My dermatologist had originally recommended I try a product called Hydrolatum, which you could only find on Amazon.
It was great for a few months until they ended up discontinuing it and hence forth setting me on my quest to find a replacement.
After trying out countless products, I stumbled upon CeraVe. Compared to all the others I tried, this one really seemed to moisturize my skin and didn’t cause a flare.
It comes in a tub version and a squeeze bottle version. I 100% recommend getting the tube version or the tub with the pump included so you don’t risk contamination by continuing to place your finger in. It just feels more sanitary and antibacterial to me.
This cream is so calming to my skin and doesn’t cause any redness at all.
Not to mention the hydration it gives is long lasting and it is enriched with hyaluronic acid and ceramides that are great for dry skin!
2. Best Gel/Cream Moisturizer: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Gel-Cream
This is my other go-to face moisturizer.
I alternate between the CeraVe and this for my primary face moisturizer.
I love how this product is more of a gel-like consistency and if you pop it in the fridge prior to application it is so cooling and soothing.
It contains Hyaluronic Acid as well and comes in two formulas; I of course always opt for the formula specialized for extra dry skin.
My only complaint with this is the size of the jar it comes in. I really wish they would make a large squeeze tube version!
3. Best Barrier Balm: Theraplex Barrier Balm
My next tried and true eczema face product I recommend is Theraplex Barrier Balm.
While it does not take the place of an actual face moisturizer, I still consider it one because I use it on top to seal in all the moisture. It is pretty much identical in consistency to Aquaphor. The big difference though is in the ingredients.
For whatever strange reason, my skin rejects Aquaphor. It took me quite a while to find a barrier balm type of product that my skin didn’t hate to be honest. I’ve tried pure Vaseline as well as The Honest Co All Purpose Balm and those didn’t work for me either.
Final Thoughts
I hope this helps take the guess work out of finding a good moisturizer that treats eczema rashes on your face.

Any recommendations with out Vitamin E or tocopherol. I’m the rare person who is allergic to it as well as hyaluronic acid. Right now my face is flared up. I’ve never had it this bad before. Thank you!

I highly recommend any pure natural oils such as Marula and Argon oil!

I had a bad flare up, wasn’t definite that it was eczema or psoriasis. I have psoriasis too, but haven’t had a flare up in years. This popped out on my eyelid and my lips, I feel sure makeup caused it. I used vitamin E, Aquaphor, Coconut oil, and Aloe Vera. But then I started using Cortizone .10 Maximum Strength. It seems a lot better, I just have to not lick my lips. I believe having it on my eye lid and lips are the worst, it’s hard to medicate. I’m looking for fragrance free make-up to keep from having another flare up. What is a good brand?
Jessi Ann says
Hi Pam! So sorry to hear about your recent eczema/psoriasis flare up! Be careful with cortisone (steroid cream) because it can cause dependency but as far as foundation goes, I have never had an issue with L’Oreal brand. It’s my go to and they have a lot of options for dry skin (Infallible Pro Glow and True Match Lumi)! 🙂

Great recommendations!!
I’m 47 and only in the last few years have discovered the like of Bioderma, Avene and LaRoche. All made for atopic skin.
I’m taking a big step in backing off cortisones by using bioderma atoderm full time and their shower oil -both products are amazing .
I like you have a full skin maintenance regime – but the thing is in order to be healthy and to live healthy we must do this . It’s no different to say someone with a chronic condition who has a regime .
I haven’t tried some of the products mentioned but I can definitely recommend the ones above .

Thank you for the recommendations!! I have heard great things about Bioderma and I love Avene and LaRoche, although they are a little pricey.
