This post is all about how to grow hair faster in a month.
A few years ago, I made it my life’s mission to crack the code of growing long healthy hair.
I had spent what seemed like forever stuck in the phase of mid length, dry, damaged hair and dreamed of having long flowing Rapunzel locks.
Sadly, I was beginning to think my hair really won’t ever grow past shoulders.
Instead of accepting this terrible fate, I started spending hours of my time researching hair growth.
I was watching countless YouTube videos, scouring blog posts, and trying to gather all the valuable intel I could.
I finally came up with a tried & true plan that is fool proof for growing out your hair, and I’m obsessed with sharing my knowledge and helping people get their hair long and healthy.
Let me put it this way: anyone can do it if they stick to and follow my tips.
PIN FOR LATER:
This post outlines the many details of how to grow hair faster in a month by explaining:
- Why your hair won’t grow faster
- Common mistakes people make while trying to grow their hair/things to STOP doing to grow hair faster
- What exactly YOU SHOULD BE DOING in order to grow hair faster in a month
First, let’s get into why your hair won’t grow faster.
The Truth About Why Your Hair Won’t Grow Faster in a Month
This is the part you are not going to to want to hear.
Your hair won’t grow because of 1 of the 2 scenarios:
- You have existing dead or split ends that are continuing to split up the hair shaft and preventing any real growth from showing.
- You are not taking care of and/or preserving the hair that you do have which leads to dead or split ends.
As you can see, the common denominator here is having dead or split ends. And the reason you don’t want to hear this is because cutting off any and all of these is necessary to growing out your hair.
If you don’t do so, you will be stuck in the same cycle of your hair never reaching it’s full potential.
Listen to me close and repeat after me.
If I…
Am going to commit to growing out my hair…
I will first…
CUT OFF any and all split/and or dry ends.
That’s right.
Whether this means taking 2 inches off of your hair or 10 inches.
This is the single most valuable piece of information when it comes to hair growth.
It is 100% fact that if your hair has split ends, the split will continue slitting up the shaft, eventually breaking off altogether and hence your hair will be caught in a constant grow and break-off cycle.
You have to take any and all split ends off and start with a fresh canvas, even if it means rocking a shorter style for a bit.
So take the leap and cut off any and all split ends. It will pay off and be so worth it in the end. TRUST ME ON THIS.
Stop Doing These Things to Grow Hair Faster in a Month
Now that we got the hard part over with, let’s get into the things you want to stop doing or keep to a minimum if you are trying to grow your hair long and healthy.
1. Trimming Your Hair Too Often
Hairdressers will tell you that you need to get 8-10 week trims but this NOT true if you take good care of the hair you have (this means incorporating all the tips in this post).
Healthy hair typically does not split after 8 weeks, and honestly I have went close to a year without a trim and my hair has continued to grow and grow.
It all comes down to taking care of the hair that you have so that trims will be unnecessary.
Naturally, this will in turn lead to GROWTH!
If after a few months your hair starts to feel like it’s getting a little dry on the ends or getting snagged more often when you’re brushing, keep a sharp pair of cutting shears on hand and do a light dusting of the ends yourself.
2. Washing Your Hair Too Much
Let your hair do it’s thing and make your washes stretch at least 2-3 days (I typically go 1 week between washes).
The longer you can go without washes, the more natural oil your hair will produce.
This natural oil provides shine and protection.
If it starts to get too greasy, you can of course step in with some dry shampoo to combat the oil.
Not sure you can go that long without washing your hair?
Check out THIS POST.
This Hair Wash Training Schedule will provide you with all the tips necessary to extend your hair wash routine to once a week hair washing.
3. Rough Brushing
This is the tip that I see that is almost always overlooked when it comes to hair growth.
If you aren’t extremely careful when you brush your hair, this can lead to so much unnecessary hair breakage, and thus slow down hair growth SIGNIFICANTLY.
You absolutely have to be sure that when you are brushing or combing through your hair you are starting at the very bottom and working your way up.
This Allure article points out the importance of gentle brushing when it comes to breakage prone hair.
Adopting a gentle, careful brushing technique (you should NEVER be pulling through snags) will prevent ripping through and splitting off your hair.
When you are brushing wet hair (since wet hair is more susceptible to breakage) be sure to invest in a good detangling product/leave in conditioner.
A combination of this and taking your time combing through your hair will preserve your hair and aid in hair growth.
I’ve tried so many different leave in conditioners but none of them compare to this one by It’s a 10 because it works so well on my thick wavy, curly hair.
4. Air Drying Hair
My opinion on heat products have changed over the years.
New research has come out that shows that air drying hair can actually cause more damage to hair than previously thought, because wet hair breaks more easily.
I’ve found that now that started blow drying and styling my hair once per week, right out of the shower, my hair has grown faster than ever.
BONUS: If you want the full details on how I do this, and my exact hair care routine, I have explained it all in this post.
Now, of note, my haircare routine does not include using a straightener, as this is shown to cause more damage than any other heat tool.
Not only is my hair healthier this way, but it looks good all week!
5. Highlighting and/or Using Bleach
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I’m going to hold your hand when I say this.
If you are really committed to growing your hair out long and healthy, you need to stop lightening it.
Bleach is extremely damaging. Period. Even on the healthiest of hair.
At least for the duration of your hair growth journey, try to refrain from highlighting your mane.
As tempting as it can be to change the color of your hair, take a hiatus from it until you get your hair to the desired length.
You can either let your hair grow out and rock the extended balayage for a bit, or take the plunge and color your hair all over to a shade that best matches your natural color.
6. Not Cleaning Your Hair Tools and Brushes
Another tip that is frequently overlooked is regularly cleaning your hair tools and brushes.
Bacteria, yeast, and buildup can accumulate in hair brushes and negatively impact your hair and scalp health.
When I say regularly, I mean the minute you start to see any buildup; which for me is a couple of times a week.
Get into the habit of removing all the hair from your brush after every time you brush your hair.
Then, once a week, soak your brushes and combs in Dawn dish soap and hot water and use a toothbrush to scrub the bristles clean.
Pro Hack: Bring your brush into the shower with you and work the shampoo into your scalp with your brush to simultaneously clean out the hair brush bristles and stimulate your scalp while you’re cleansing.
Hair tool brushes like the Revlon One Step Volumizer are notorious for collecting hair buildup and should also be cleaned regularly.
Start Doing These Things to Grow Hair Faster in a Month
In order to see noticeable hair growth, you should start incorporating the following tips.
1. Use Natural Oils Regularly to Grow Hair Faster
During your hair growth journey, you should be using natural oils regularly on your hair, in couple different ways.
The first is to make sure that once a week, on the night before your hair wash day, you do a deep conditioning oil treatment on your hair.
Basically what you want to do is work oil into your hair, beginning and focusing on the roots (where your hair actually grows from) saturate your hair in oil, and let it sit for as long as possible.
Make sure you are very thorough with this, as this is a great way to oil buff your scalp and loosen any buildup that accumulated from the week.
I start by working the oil into my scalp with my fingertips, distributing it evenly all over my scalp.
Then, I go in with my brush (linked below under the next tip) and use it as a scalp massager to work the oil into my scalp and really stimulate my roots.
Sometimes I’ll even sleep over night with it and have a towel on my pillow just for added nourishing.
The other way to use oil is to take apply a pump of oil on the ends of your hair at night before bed.
Some oils proven to be great for your hair are
- coconut oil
- argon oil
- moroccan oil
- rosehip seed oil
Pssst. If you’re a newbie to using oils on your hair, be sure to check out: this post . I outline all the best oils for hair and skin and exactly how to apply!
I’ve been using Argon oil for a while now and I love how it makes my hair feel.
Additionally, every night before bed I take a few small squirts and finger comb it onto the ends of my hair to protect again splitting.
2. Sleep on a Silk Pillowcase
Cotton pillowcases absorb oil and can end up drying out your hair over time and causing split ends due to the abrasive friction.
I noticed a big difference in the overall shine of my hair once I switched to a silk pillowcase.
This one is super affordable and is so cooling and comfy.
3. Stimulate Blood Flow to Scalp By Brushing Regularly
One of the best ways to stimulate blood flow to your scalp and in turn cause hair growth is by thoroughly brushing your hair from roots to ends every single day.
If you’re like me and have a partner who is willing to help you out with this– even better!
I badger my husband basically nightly for a scalp massage lol. But it really is proven to stimulate blood flow to your scalp which in turn promotes growth.
But for those who don’t have an extra set of hands to help, this scalp massager works wonders.
Additionally, every time you wash your hair, stimulate your scalp with a Tangle Teezer detangling brush. Use it to work the shampoo into your roots and simultaneously clean your brush.
Not to mention it does a way better job of getting your scalp clean than your fingers alone.
4. Keep Hair Cut in Thick Layers or All One Length to Grow Hair Faster
Another hair growth tip that I have not seen mentioned very often is to, if possible, keep your hair in thick layers.
While I haven’t found any research studies on this, the idea behind it is that the thinner the layer of hair, the more fragile the layer and the more susceptible to breakage it is.
While I was growing my hair out, I found my hair would sustain less breakage when I kept my layers beginning from my temples up, and the rest of my hair (from the temples down) all one length.
5. Use a Good Quality Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner
I’m not going to lie, I used to think that high end shampoos and conditioners were a hoax and that drug store products work just as well.
And this very well may be true for some hair types.
But for anyone with more difficult hair types like me (think thick, curly, wavy, coarse, etc.) I truly think that investing in good quality hair products (especially shampoo and conditioner) can make a world of a difference.
The ones I used during my hair growth journey, and still resort back to now because they’re just so good, are the Pureology Hydrate Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner.
They are sulfate free, good for all hair types from straight to curly, and leave your hair looking and feeling insanely healthy.
6. Hydrate from the Inside
I know, I know. I’m honestly so sick of seeing this redundant tip everywhere, too. But I can’t exclude it from my list because honestly, it’s true.
I am not extremely consistent with this but I’ve noticed that when I am, it has a positive impact on literally everything on my body from hair and skin to mood and digestion.
Just drink your water people!
I purchased this bottle with the time markers on it and I’m not going to lie, it really has helped me with upping my water intake and staying on track to meet my water goals throughout the day.
7. Take a Multivitamin To Grow Hair Faster in a Month
Along with drinking more water and promoting growth from the inside, I swear by taking a multi-vitamin specialized in hair skin and nails.
The one by Nature’s Bounty works great for me and has crazy good reviews.
It even comes in both gummy form if you’re not a pill swallower.
Final Thoughts on How to Grow Hair Faster in a Month
I really hope any of you whose hair is growing slow are able to utilize some of these tips.
At the end of the day you don’t have to spend a bunch of money on expensive salon products that claim to mend split ends (they don’t) – you just have to be consistent and you will see results.
