This post is all about how to get soft smooth feet at home!
It’s no secret one of the most challenging areas on your body to keep moisturized is your feet.
If you suffer from chronically dry, callused feet, you’re not alone. I used to continually have super dry feet and looked for ways to get soft smooth feet at home.
Lucky for me, I live in the midwest US so I only have to worry about my feet being seen from about May through September.
And let me say, the only thing I dislike about summer is the fact that my feet are on display so I need to keep them in tip top shape. Well, I lied: the other nuisance is I have to regularly shave my legs – but that’s a complaint for another day, ha!
Why is being a woman so exhausting? Sigh. I digress.
But if you happen to live in a climate that is continually warm, the pressure is on 365 days to keep your feet perfectly pedicured!
The good news is that once you get into the swing of an effective foot care routine, it’s super easy to keep your feet soft and smooth at home.
And no, contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to go get a pedicure every month. In fact, I find giving myself a pedicure at home to be way better than going to get it done at the salon.
I’m super picky. I want my toenails shaped a certain way and I also happen to have a pretty steady hand (thanks to practice) at applying polish. That means I am extra critical when I pay money to have it done.
But when it comes to keeping your feet moisturized, unless you’re going to the nail salon every week, there’s going to be some things you should do at home routinely to keep your feet soft and smooth.
Below are the best tips and tools I have personally found to be super effective when transforming feet from dry and callused to smooth and soft!
Here are the best tips and tools for how to get soft smooth feet at home!
1. Use a callus shaver to get soft smooth feet at home
Investing in a good quality callus shaver is a great way to make sure your feet are smooth. I’ve tried several different ones but the one I found on Amazon has worked the best for me. I just use it fresh out of the shower when my feet are still soft. I only need to do this once every couple of weeks and it keeps my feet (especially my heels and sides of my big toe) super smooth.
2. Foot soak
A great way to soften any calluses or dry skin on your feet is to soak them in a foot bath with hot water and essential oils. If you can get in the habit of doing this weekly, you are guaranteed to keep your feet hydrated. Some essential oils that work great for this are peppermint oil and tea tree oil. Make sure you add in some sea salt for added self care and relaxation benefits while you’re at it!
3. Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is that ingredient in your kitchen that has about a million uses around the house and body. It’s great to have on hand and definitely a great way to exfoliate dry spots on your feet. Just put some on a cotton ball and rub it on your calluses for instant smoothing.
4. Foot mask
One of my favorite things to do on a self care day is put a foot mask on. They’re a great way to add extra moisture back to your feet and really help you to get soft smooth feet at home.
Most of them come in plastic socks infused with creams and oils that penetrate moisture into your feet. Be sure to put socks on over it and leave it on for an hour to maximize the results.
5. Oil massages for soft smooth feet at home
Oils massages are one of my favorite ways to get the most moisture into my feet. The best time to do an oil massage is directly out of the shower while your feet are still soft. My oils of choice are almond oil and virgin unrefined coconut oil.
6. Use a pumice with an exfoliator in the shower
The most effective tool for maintenance on your feet is to keep an exfoliating pumice in your shower. I use it daily when I shower. It works the best in combo with an exfoliating body wash such as this one by Cera Ve or with a physical exfoliator like this one from dove. Scrub the spots that get the most dry and apply a decent amount of pressure. You can get the pumice most places including TJ Max but I’ve linked a good one below that you can purchase from Amazon.
7. Protect feet
Protecting your feet from things that will harden them is one of the best ways to get soft smooth feet at home. For instance, I try not to be barefoot very often. If you’re just walking around the house, keep your feet inside socks with lotion when you can.
And don’t even think about walking around outside on rocks or pavement barefoot. This is a sure way to cause calluses and make your feet harden. One thing that has helped me is keeping a pair of slippers handy to slip on by the door to my deck.
These are the perfect lightweight slipper to keep handy next to a door to slip on and protect your feet. Not to mention they are super cute!
8. Use a good foot cream for soft smooth feet at home
Lotion typically isn’t moisturizing enough for your feet alone. The best way to combat dryness to keep your feet soft and smooth at home is by using a thick cream formulated especially for feet. Added bonus if it contains Manuka Honey which is known for its abilities to restore and hydrate skin.
Here is one by Dr. Organic that has great reviews. One review states “This is the best heel cream I’ve used – very effective.”
9. Glycolic Acid Toner
This hack has been all over Tik Tok lately. I have not personally tried it out myself, but I definitely plan to. Go ahead and grab yourself some toner with glycolic acid such as this one by Mario Badescu. Simply pour some toner on a cotton pad and wipe your dry heels with it. After a couple nights of consecutive use, you should see the dry skin disappear like magic!
