This blog post is all about transforming your bathroom into an oasis.
Picture waking up every morning and walking into your own at home spa.
Quite literally.
Envision yourself naturally waking as the sun is rising, sliding on your favorite white plush slippers and walking into the kitchen to pour yourself a large glass of fruit infused water.
After you’ve done some stretching, meditating, and gratitude journaling, your next stop is your bathroom to get ready to squash your goals for the day.
Now I don’t know about you, but all of that so far sounds extremely appealing to me.
With all of that being said, the next thing I envision in this scenario is walking into a bathroom with a spa-like ambience. This is because I want my bathroom to align with my vision of productivity and inspiration.
That’s why I took it upon myself to try to create a bathroom that resembles a spa. Simply put, not only is a spa-like bathroom extremely aesthetically pleasing, it has transformed my morning routine and inspires me for the day to come.
How do you give your bathroom spa vibes and turn it into your own oasis?
I started out by brainstorming what I envisioned when I thought of a trip to the spa. This led me to formulating a list of steps to follow to achieve a spa ambience in your bathroom, or any room of the house for that matter.
Tip 1: Choose light paint colors
Paint the walls white, light beige, light grey, or even greige. Every spa I have been to has felt light, airy, and open.
This can be replicated in your bathroom by opting for a lighter color with a slight warm tone to it.
Tip 2: Out with the old (towels) in with the new
Another easy pointer is to replace your old dingy, mismatched towels with uniform, solid towels. I opted for a creamy beige color but white would be even better. If I was better about keeping my whites white I would have totally used pure white.
Towels can be expensive so you can wait until Kohl’s (don’t forget your coupon because they are usually always available on RetailMeNot) or Target is running a sale.
I think I ended up spending around $50 altogether and that was for 5 large towels, 5 hand towels, and 5 wash cloths.
Tip 3: Accessorize with bamboo
When I imagine spa accessories, my mind always steers me towards bamboo. You could also use anything with a natural raw wood look to it.
Try adding a tray for your bathtub, a stool, or a tray for the soap containers to sit on.
Tip 4: Add real or faux greens
Spas have a natural and organic feel to them. So it makes sense that adding living plants can up the spa factor.
For instance, some great ways to incorporate plants would be to hang fresh eucalyptus in your shower or add a humidity loving plant like an Elephant Ear or a Majesty Palm.
If you don’t have a green thumb, you can fake it till you make it by using a faux plant. Some look identical to the real thing and it’s hard to tell them apart!
Tip 5: Don’t forget about smells
Ambience isn’t just about the visuals. You can tweak the aura of a room by incorporating different scents. One idea is to incorporate an essential oil diffuser.
If a diffuser is too much of a hassle for you, just get a foo foo expensive-looking, fresh smelling candle to burn and it will get the job done as well.
TJ Maxx and Home Goods both have a great selection of boujee packaged candles for cheap.
I am drawn towards anything with hints of Lavender, Eucalyptus, Mirrh, Jasmine, or Sandalwood.
Tip 6: Minimal decor
When choosing decor for your spa-inspired bathroom, less is always more.
I removed most everything from my bathroom countertop except for the essentials (a tray, hand soap, hand lotion, room spray, and a candle). If you have much more than that sitting out, in my opinion it ends up looking cluttered and busy.
I have some really good tips here for converting to minimalist decor in your home.
Tip 7: Add a plush rug
Have a nice plush rug to step on right out of the shower.
This will be a subtle reminder every time you step out of the shower how comfortable and accommodating your bathroom is. Which further reinforces the oh-so-desired spa experience.
Tip 8: Use boujee (on a budget) soap
Upgrade your soap!
You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg on expensive high-end soap either. I found the cutest apothecary looking dispenser at TJ Maxx and it was about $7.
I love filling it with my favorite Bath and Body Work’s hand soaps.
Tip 9: Keep up on cleaning
Last but definitely not least, you are going to give your bathroom a good deep clean and really keep up on cleaning it.
Spas are regularly sanitized so your bathroom should look like it as well. Any built up soap scum on the sides of the shower, loose hairs on the floor, dust on the trim boards, an overflowing trash can, or a dirty toilet bowl will instantly diminish the look you are going for.
Not to mention, this advice should probably be a no brainer for any bathroom decor style you are going for lol!
And there you have it, my 9 tips for transforming your bathroom into a spa oasis.
Take away
In order to achieve an oasis status bathroom, you want to ensure it looks clean, luxurious, and comfortable. Try to focus on pulling together white and neutral-warm light brown tones. And make it feel natural in all senses from smell to touch to sight.
I’d love to know what your bathroom inspiration looks like so feel free to drop a comment!
