This post is all about old money makeup looks.
Is your makeup routine lacking or do you just need a little pick me up, refresh or inspo?
Furthermore, are you simply just tired of the overdone, 20-step makeup routines we’ve all been brainwashed to believe we need?
If so, the new and emerging old money makeup look is the perfect segway into a more neutral, minimalist way of wearing makeup.
Which, if I’m being honest, sounds very much like a breeze of fresh air to me!
Personally, for the past few months, I have slowly been working on downsizing my makeup collection.
Mostly because I am now living in a tiny studio apartment with minimal storage space, but also because I’m sick of having a million different makeup products that I barely, if ever, reach for when I’m getting ready.
For whatever reason, it seems (maybe thanks to Gen-Z’ers) we are transitioning towards a more natural way of dressing, applying makeup, and wearing our hair.
Consequently, it’s rare to scroll Tik Tok without seeing at least some mention of “old money brunette,” “old money style,” or “old money aesthetic.”
The idea of old money has pretty much taken over everything in the style (fashion, jewelry, accessories) and beauty (hair, nails, and of course makeup) communities.

So What is Old Money Aesthetic Anyways?
Old money is a term used to describe a subtle, classy heir about you that radiates modest (not flashy) wealth and sophistication.
It’s a way of inconspicuously saying “I’m affluent, I probably live a luxurious lifestyle, and I don’t have to boast about it for you to see it.”
Why is Old Money Makeup Appealing?
Old money makeup is enticing for a couple of reasons.
One, because it is a more minimal method of applying makeup. You don’t have to spend hours on your makeup routine, and that in itself is very appealing.
It doesn’t take much time or effort at all to execute the old money aesthetic makeup, given you invest in the right products.
Secondly, this makeup look gives you a beautiful, subtle glow and enhances your natural beauty without being bold or screaming for attention.

What Do Old Money Makeup Looks Have in Common?
So, these looks unmistakably have a few common characteristics.
Let’s examine what the above old money makeup looks all seem to get right:
- The foundation or base makeup is seamless and glowy with a natural skin finish.
- The lashes are feathered, pieces, and emphasized on the outer corners (making them look real and healthy).
- Many of them have blushed cheeks instead of a bronzer contour.
- The eyeshadow is only a few shades lighter or darker than skin tone, so there’s not a huge contrast.
- The eyebrows are very natural and fluffy.
- Your eyes are drawn to the eyes and lips of every look.
- The lips are only slightly overdrawn.
Also worth noting, in all of these looks, the hair compliments the makeup perfectly.
Some hairstyles that look amazing paired with old money makeup are: the slicked back bun, large voluminous Marilyn Monroe curls or waves, and pin straight hair.
When it comes to hair color, the hair color always seems to be, at most, only a shade or two light or darker than the natural color.
Final Thoughts
All in all, what I really love about this trend, is it’s not really a trend at all.
People have been rocking the old money look for as long as beauty has been around, but we now have a name for it.
If you are looking to transition to an elegant, yet ritzy makeup look, definitely give the old money makeup look a try.
