This post is all about setting up a home office for remote work and an optimal home office setup.
I have worked from home consistently since 2019, but my very first remote job was back in 2016.
I have definitely seen the extremes of both worlds, from the corporate in-office environment, to working for years out of my own home.
While they both have their perks – and I might be a tad biased due to my introverted nature – but I truly believe the advantages of working from home far outweigh those of commuting to an office for work every day.
However, I do believe the key to this is having an optimal home office setup.
Setting Up a Home Office for Remote Work
Step 1: Know the Components of an Optimal Home Office Setup
There are a few key components to an optimal wfh space.
Private
The first is a private spot within your home or living quarters. You want this area to be free of distractions and quiet so that you can concentrate and if you are required to make outbound calls, there won’t be a bunch of unprofessional background noise.
Temperate
Next, you want to make sure the area you will be working is temperature controlled. You are going to be spending most of your day in this area, so be sure it is warm enough in the winter and cool enough in the summer.
Lighting
The space would ideally have a lot of good natural light. Not only does this prevent you from having to have your lights on all day everyday, but it can affect your mood in a positive way to get some vitamin D from sunlight.
Minimal
Along the same lines as privacy, you want your work from home area to be minimal and free of distractions to maximize your productivity, creativity, and all the things.
Accessibility
Make sure the area you choose for your WFH office has wi-fi accessibility and or electrical outlets and internet router/hookup plugins in locations where your desk will be.
Step 2: Choose Your Aesthetic Inspo When Setting Up a Home Office Setup
The following are some different work from home setups for inspiration.
You can set up your own Pinterest board with work from home office setup ideas that you are drawn to.
Is there a common theme you are drawn to? For example, all the pictures you pinned have a white desk and a fluffy rug.
Use this as your guide before moving on to step 3 below.
Step 3: Purchase Items To Set Up Your Home Office for Remote Work
Once you have a solid idea of the look you are going for, you can start to look for each item that will make up your work from home office.
Some necessities include:
- Desk
- Chair
- Rug
- Keyboard/Mouse
- Desk Pad
- Lamp
- Shelving
The best places I have found to purchase affordable home office furniture and items are: Amazon, Wayfair, and Ikea.
Step 4: Actually Setting Up a Workspace at Home
This is a great time to reference your inspo pics.
